ABOUT ME

I watched The Dark Knight when I was 8 years old and I knew then and there that I wanted to be Batman. It wasn’t long before that admiration turned into obsession. Everywhere, I acted as Batman—in the car from school, at the dinner table, and even on the hospital bed. “Umma, I saved them,” I said, high on anesthesia after my appendectomy. To this day, I want to be Batman, and it just happens that in our world, you have to be an actor to be him.

When I told my family about pursuing acting seriously, my dad revealed his own love for it, recounting his years of drama club in college. After three decades, his name still proudly stands on the posters of a small, humble blackbox at Chung Ang University. It’s the only explanation for his understanding of the deep, inexplicable love I have for this craft. But he had to give up his love for acting to raise me, so in a way, this journey is for the both of us.

I have trained at both the Atlantic and Playwrights Horizons Acting School through NYU. I act, write, direct—I do it all. I am a chef. A creative machine eager to learn more about the world.

I am Soomin Sun.

I am a proud Asian American actor-writer from southern California. And I will be Batman.
